Topic Detection and Tracking Pilot Study Final Report

چکیده
Topic Detection and Tracking (TDT) is a DARPA-sponsored initiative to investigate the state of the art in finding and following new events in a stream of broadcast news stories. The TDT problem consists of three major tasks: (1) segmenting a stream of data, especially recognized speech, into distinct stories; (2) identifying those news stories that are the first to discuss a new event occurring in the news; and (3) given a small number of sample news stories about an event, finding all following stories in the stream. The TDT Pilot Study ran from September 1996 through October 1997. The primary participants were DARPA, Carnegie Mellon University, Dragon Systems, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This report summarizes the findings of the pilot study. The TDT work continues in a new project involving larger training and test corpora, more active participants, and a more broadly defined notion of “topic” than was used in the pilot study. The following individuals participated in the research reported.

Doppler and bearing tracking using fuzzy adaptive unscented Kalman filter
The topic of Doppler and Bearing Tracking (DBT) problem is to achieve a target trajectory using the Doppler and Bearing measurements. The difficulty of DBT problem comes from the nonlinearity terms exposed in the measurement equations. Several techniques were studied to deal with this topic, such as the unscented Kalman filter. Nevertheless, the performance of the filter depends directly on the...
متن کاملNIST's 1998 topic detection and tracking evaluation (TDT2)
This paper presents a summary of the 1998 Topic Detection and Tracking (TDT) tasks and the results of the 1998 TDT evaluation. The purpose of TDT is to develop technologies for retrieval and automatic organization of Broadcast News and Newswire stories and to evaluate the performance of those technologies. The TDT project builds on and extends the technologies of Automatic Speech Recognition an...
متن کاملEvent Tracking
This paper introduces Event Tracking, a new application of Information Retrieval technology with interesting research and evaluation questions. We describe the problem, a pilot corpus of news stories that was constructed for experimental studies, and a \rolling" evaluation strategy that uses diierent segments of the corpus for each query. As part of a preliminary evaluation on a small pilot stu...
متن کاملNeural Network Performance Analysis for Real Time Hand Gesture Tracking Based on Hu Moment and Hybrid Features
This paper presents a comparison study between the multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks with supervised learning and back propagation algorithm to track hand gestures. Both networks have two output classes which are hand and face. Skin is detected by a regional based algorithm in the image, and then networks are applied on video sequences frame by frame in...
متن کاملProbabilistic models for topic detection and tracking
We present probabilistic models for use in detecting and tracking topics in broadcast news stories. Our information retrieval (IR) models are formally explained. The Topic Detection and Tracking (TDT) initiative is discussed. The application of probabilistic models to the topic detection and tracking tasks is developed, and enhancements are discussed. We discuss four variations of these models,...
